During the 2020 quarantine, I wanted to try to find ways to practice photography. I figured birds at the feeder were a good place to start. So I got myself a Nikkor 200-500mm lens, and the practice commenced! I was really happy with some of the results. Next challenge will be birds in flight. We’ll see how it goes!
This woodpecker took some time for a snack. Trying out a new lens..loving it so far!
Here is a red-bellied Woodpecker having lunch with me on my back porch
We had a beautiful red little visitor today
Here is some grosbeak goodness for everyone.
Up! Up and Away! This female red-winged blackbird (took me a while to figure that out – hope I’m right!) is waiting for a seat on the bird feeder, which is getting alot of traffic these days!
A grosbeak came to visit today!
Demonstrating how to properly partake in a liquid lunch!
OK, so 2020 so far has been a disapointment. Not because (for the purposes of this post anyway) of Covid, or the political environment we’re living in, but because we weren’t getting many hummingbirds at our feeder. We determined that because we were getting bigger birds at our bird feeder, which hung on the same wire as our hummingbird feeder, the bigger birds were scaring them away, so we moved the hummingbird feeders to a different location. Look at who visited us today!
Posing for me on the wire, as if to say aint I perty?
Hummers are humming! I’ve been watching these for a while – this is our neighborhood bully – she chases the other hummers away from the feeder every chance she gets. I believe this is a female ruby throated humming bird (or could be a young male).
We had a big turkey under the bird feeder today. Was strange seeing him/her so close to the house!
Goldfinch hangin’ out on the wire like a cool cat
Goldfinch in the foreground, and Purple Finch over on the side. One person commented on this photo on social media – “interesting – they are all different colors, but still get along.” We can definitely learn from the birds.
These birds are often seen on the sides of trees up-side down. Must be headache material!
Haning out on the wire, waiting for some bird food.
Red-bellied Woodpecker hanging out in the tree. IMO – of all the woodpeckers we have these are the most beautiful…
When you have that creepy feeling that someone is watching you eat…
Trying to figure out what is happening in front of him while I take his picture!
We have alot of woodpeckers this year! I think this one is a young downy woodpecker.
